The Nursery Just Got A Little Smaller

After a great Saturday spent with friends from college, our church in Birmingham and various other places, we returned home with a car full of goodies for the baby. The best part was catching up with dear friends and spending time with family. On Saturday, I saw all six of my bridesmaids from six years ago-which is no easy task!

The nursery that previously felt huge, seems to be a little smaller now that it's filled with a pack and play, rocking seat, clothes and many other brightly colored baby necessities. We received a perfect balance of practical and cute, girly gifts. It now looks more like a nursery and thanks to our generous friends, we're almost ready for her arrival.

The drive home on Sunday was fun, with a loose rattle jingling in the backseat every time we hit a bump. Now, if we could have somehow bypassed the UK fans and SEC basketball tournament traffic in Nashville, it would have been about an hour and a half shorter.

We are so grateful for all our friends who have supported us along the way and are celebrating the upcoming arrival of our little one with us.

The yellow bookcase made the trip to Louisville from Birmingham.
In its previous life, it was in my childhood room.
It will be painted white in the coming weeks.

This tasty treat is a Sara Marsh original and was delicious - leftovers
didn't last very long, especially after learning that I passed my glucose test.

Aunt Tanner made the trip!

Seeing my favorite little man was another highlight of the weekend.

Crafty, crafty

In searching for a cute mobile for over the crib, I found the perfect one on etsy.com, but, it was pricey. Inspired by my sister, I decided to do it myself. I turned to the cabinet in my office that is bursting with paper and ribbon from weddings, showers and other random festive occasions. It ended up costing me less than half of what it would have cost on etsy.com.

Baby's Got Her 1st Pair of Blue Jeans

Tonight I survived my first enormous childrens consignment sale. I showed up with my laundry basket in tow, not sure what to expect. I was totally overwhelmed at first by the sea of exersaucers, bouncy seats and clothes. So, I went straight for the girls clothes and started browsing. Once I found my first smocked dress for $2.50, I found my groove. I even scored a few pieces of maternity clothes for myself. Here are a few things I picked up:

Come to my house, and I'll put you to work.

After Brian's parents helped us clear out the guest room to begin it's conversion into the nursery in January, my parents came to visit this weekend and I put them to work as well. While Mom slaved away at her sewing machine, Dad and Brian repaired and painted the ceiling, walls and trim. All I did was pick out shapes and colors. Next up, the arrival of the glider and completion of artwork.

P.S. I'm going to paint the curtain rods white, just didn't get to it this weekend.

I ordered bedding. And it's pink.

I've never been a big fan of the color pink. Just ask my mom. She tried for years to make me wear it and eventually gave up (however, she held strong on the bowl cut until the 2nd grade).

So when we found out we are having a girl, I resisted pink with all I had, but was having a hard time with wall colors, glider upholstery fabric and pretty much everything else. So I gave in. I found a beautiful set on sale at an online retailer that is a cool pink and very simple. If you know me well, the simple part should not shock you. It's set to arrive Friday. Now, if I could just make up my mind about other stuff.

It's a...

Girl! While we had every intention of finding out by ourselves, our doctor slipped up and gave us the good news. We didn't mind at all, it was kind of nice to be taken off guard by it. The most important part is that she is healthy and everything looks great. Dr. Evans says that I look good and maybe one of these days, I'll be wearing maternity clothes.

Brian realizes that being wrapped around her little finger has only just begun.

Uno or Una?

When we found out that we were having one baby, my sister nicknamed the baby Uno. We have affectionately referred to the baby as Uno ever since. On January 18, we will go for the ultrasound to determine if it's an Uno or and Una. After being chastised by friends and family at the suggestion that we might not find out the sex, we decided to go ahead and find out. We're going to have the ultrasound tech put it in an envelope and Brian and I will go to dinner and find out, just the two of us.

My savvy blogging friend, Alieta, told me how to put a snazzy poll on my blog. Feel free to vote and we'll let you know once we've opened the envelope.
