I've never been a big fan of the color pink. Just ask my mom. She tried for years to make me wear it and eventually gave up (however, she held strong on the bowl cut until the 2nd grade).
So when we found out we are having a girl, I resisted pink with all I had, but was having a hard time with wall colors, glider upholstery fabric and pretty much everything else. So I gave in. I found a beautiful set on sale at an online retailer that is a cool pink and very simple. If you know me well, the simple part should not shock you. It's set to arrive Friday. Now, if I could just make up my mind about other stuff.

It's a...
Girl! While we had every intention of finding out by ourselves, our doctor slipped up and gave us the good news. We didn't mind at all, it was kind of nice to be taken off guard by it. The most important part is that she is healthy and everything looks great. Dr. Evans says that I look good and maybe one of these days, I'll be wearing maternity clothes.

Uno or Una?
When we found out that we were having one baby, my sister nicknamed the baby Uno. We have affectionately referred to the baby as Uno ever since. On January 18, we will go for the ultrasound to determine if it's an Uno or and Una. After being chastised by friends and family at the suggestion that we might not find out the sex, we decided to go ahead and find out. We're going to have the ultrasound tech put it in an envelope and Brian and I will go to dinner and find out, just the two of us.
My savvy blogging friend, Alieta, told me how to put a snazzy poll on my blog. Feel free to vote and we'll let you know once we've opened the envelope.

Could it be true?
I'm yet to move the scales in a positive direction, having dropped 9 pounds in the first 16 weeks. My weekly update email from babycenter.com gives this advice:
Drink a milk shake every day (add in fresh fruit for vitamin C). You'll get a calorie boost and you'll benefit from the calcium in the ice cream.
Could it be true? Was I just told to hit the Chick-fil-A drive thru everyday?

A Good Report
Today I went for my 16 weeks check up (a few days early). All looks good: strong heartbeat and good numbers. I feel like I should have had more questions for the doctor, I always seem to come up with fabulous ones on the drive home. Maybe I'll remember them when we go back in January.

A Love/Hate Relationship
Now that I'm feeling like a human again, I've started imagining what our child's nursery will look like. I've looked at cribs and gliders, paint chips and carpet samples and thought that I had a general idea of what I want...
Until I visited a local baby furniture store, where I was told I *had* to purchase this Baby Bargains book before making any significant purchases. I walked down the sidewalk to Borders and picked up a copy and it has now shattered all of my preconceived ideas about nursery furniture, specifically cribs. It has lots of fantastic reviews and more information than I could ever want or ask for. I'm very glad to have it, but it has made the whole process much more difficult.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated if you have experience in the area. Drop side crib v. fixed rail. Pricey v. frugal. Convertible v. standard. Which items to invest in and which ones don't need to be top of the line.
P.S. Writing a blog entry makes me feel like Doogie Howser, M.D. and now I have the theme song stuck in my head.

The Latest Conley News
On Monday, September 28, Brian received the wonderful news that his 9 year CT scans and x-rays were clean! As if that weren't enough good news for a day, that afternoon, we also learned that we are having a baby (yes, a baby)! After about a year of consulting fertility specialists in different cities, several rounds of treatments and lots of prayer, we are thrilled that the Lord has blessed our efforts. We are due on June 7, 2010, which is Brian's fabulous grandmother's birthday. Today is the pivotal 12 week mark and we are elated to finally be able to share our good news!
We have so much to be grateful for during this season of thanksgiving!
